Blackfellas and Otherfellas from Around the World
We think it is important that theatre
tells us more than we already know about ourselves, about others, and
about the land we inhabit. The way to do that is to present a real
diversity of artists and stories.
So we will be putting extra energy into forming relationships with
artists and storytellers of all backgrounds whose work is about telling
us more than we already know.
We are proud of our company’s history of championing blackfella stories,
but we know that there are many stories – including some of the hardest
ones – that still need to be told.
We are going to do our best to make sure that the artists and the
stories on our stages actually look and sound like the world we live in.
For Belvoir, that means making a special effort to ask difficult
questions about how artists are given the opportunity to grow, and where
our stories come from.
If you have anything to contribute to this endeavour – whether it’s a
show or just a story you think needs to be told – we would love to hear from you.
Please get in touch with our Associate Director (New Projects) Eamon Flack to set up a meeting.
We are especially interested in artists with Indigenous and culturally
diverse backgrounds who have the potential to take on positions of
cultural leadership.
