Ray's Tempest

RAY'S TEMPEST - OPENS TONIGHT!

It's hard to believe that Ray's Tempest has taken almost ten long years to reach the stage! From the original workshops in 1995 with Richard Roxburgh's and Justin Monjo's company The Burning House, to Steve Rodger's re-worked draft which was presented at the The Australian National Playwrights' Conference in Adelaide in 2003 and finally (with a few more drafts along the way) into the 2005 Company B Season!

Ray's Tempest features an impressive line up with some familiar Company B faces - Russell Kiefel, Russell Dykstra and Anni Finsterer, as well as some new faces - Sibylla Budd, Alan Flower, Damon Gameau and Alyssa McClelland.

Ray's Tempest is an appropriate farewell to the Belvoir St Theatre before the long-anticipated renovations commence in July. Be sure to come along and bid the "old" Belvoir farewell!

In The Blood

B SHARP - IN THE BLOOD

The latest B Sharp offering is a truly intense piece of theatre; Suzan-Lori Parks' In The Blood. Parks is a playwright, songwriter, screenwriter and novelist, and the first African-American woman to win the Pullitzer Prize for drama. Director Tanya Denny (who also directed the very successful One Flea Spare for B Sharp 2004) has brought to life the story of homeless woman, Hester (an outstanding performance by Candy Bowers) and her five children. Her story is gritty and pitted with racial, gender and social injustice. Not to mention blatant double standards of morality.

"... This is a dark, emotionally ripping work that speaks of a world that we are in the process of embracing."
Stephen Dunne, The Sydney Morning Herald 21.05.05

In The Blood runs until June 5 in the Downstairs Theatre. Don't miss it!
