A comedy institution for over 20 years, the Theatresports® Cranston Cup returns in 2008 for another hilarious season of laughs and surprises.

Born in 1985 and named after a particularly memorable character invention, the Theatresports® Cranston Cup is produced by the non-profit organisation, Impro Australia. This is their flagship event - an annual competition between teams of comic actors who are set the task of creating instant scenes based on surprise offers and audience suggestions.

Putting their wit and courage to the test, the state’s top improvisers battle it out to reach the grand final and get their hands on the biggest, ugliest trophy in Australia, the Cranston Cup.

Can the defending champions (and current National Champions), The Wizard’s Finger, create history by repeating their victory? A vast array of new and experienced talent will be doing their comic best to make sure they don’t.

The competition begins its annual march to comic glory with heats at the Newtown Theatre from the 21 Septemeber to 2 November (www.ticketek.com.au). And the semi finals will take place at Belvoir St Theatre on Sunday 9, 16 and 23 November at 8.30pm.
